My artwork, pictured
here, was created for the J.R. Towers building in Nagoya, Japan. This
hotel, scheduled to open in May of 2000, is the largest building and
the fourth tallest building in Japan. The painting will be viewable
on the ceiling in the Sky Lounge on the 52nd floor. The Sky Lounge is
at the top of one of the twin towers of the J.R. Towers building. There
are 31 panels that collectively comprise the image that measures approximately
5.7m x 14m or about 19' x 47'. The theme for this painting is of planets
and cloud nebulae in space. One of my loves and dedications is in painting
images of our beautiful Earth. Central to the dynamic harmony of this
painting is a 5' or 1.5m round panel depicting our earth as the sun
rises over Japan. Check back here periodically for further updates on
this project. If I do not up date this project sooner I will certainly
post pictures of the Grand Opening of the Hotel on May 17th when I return
from Japan.

January
21st I am pictured here doing touch up work between the panels as
they go up on the ceiling of the Sky Lounge. |
| This
is the crew that worked to install the art work with my wife and
me. From management to each skilled worker, these guys were incredible.

This is a picture from
my studio in Northern California prior to shipping the painting
to Japan. In this picture I am putting the final touches on
the 5' round of the earth that is so central to the painting.
The Earth is depicted as the sun rises over Japan on the dawn
of the new millennium. Painting the Earth on new years eve in
America, I utilized internet site postings of satellite weather
projections for the weather in Asia. Asia was already celebrating
New Years as we in America via television followed the dawn
of the century from continent to continent around the world.
As I painted the clouds enveloping our world I periodically
would take the walk from my studio to my home computer to study
how the weather was developing over Asia. I found this ceremony
of finishing the painting on this day of world celebration to
be the high point of the entire painting for me. It is a remarkable
time we live in in which I can watch storms move across Asia
and the Pacific on my computer screen and see the peoples of
the world celebrating the dawn of the new century's first day
as our beautiful Earth turns to greet the rising sun. All the
symbols of the day, the face of our living Earth, the cultures
of humanity in united recognition of a brief moment in time,
all became part of the finishing touches to this painting.
